Quantitative Trader – Full time & summer internship positions

(Traineeship for Computer Sciences, Information Science, Physics, Mathematics)

Job Description:

Jane Street is a quantitative trading firm with a unique focus on technology, a scientific approach, and a deep understanding of markets to guide our business. Our entrepreneurial culture is driven by our talented team of traders and programmers. We are a global liquidity provider and market maker, operating around the clock and around the globe, employing over 800 people in our offices in New York, London, Hong Kong and Amsterdam.

The markets change rapidly, and we need to change faster still. Every day, we come to work with new problems to solve, new systems to build and new theories to test. We’re always looking for people to join us and help come up with that next great idea. Our trading is based on our own proprietary models and on busy days we engage in over a million trades. Technology is at the core of how we approach trading, and we consider ourselves as much a technology company as a trading firm.

Traders work in teams to seek out and trade on pricing inefficiencies, develop models, manage risk, investigate new products, and push into new business areas. Experienced traders teach and oversee the less-experienced. New traders serve as assistants while they learn the ropes, getting increasing responsibility as they demonstrate their ability to handle it.

We’re constantly recruiting for Full Time Quantitative Traders.

We also run a summer internship program, and intern applications are typically open from late summer until early winter. Our internship program is very competitively paid.

Interns have the opportunity to learn about market making, trading and pricing financial derivatives. Our interns work side-by-side with experienced traders and are given more responsibility as their understanding and learning progress. Interns also research equities, derivatives, indices and financial markets.

Summer intern education is supplemented with lessons in a classroom setting, where both trading theory and practice are covered. Interns are encouraged to participate alongside firm traders in mock trading sessions twice weekly.

Trading at Jane Street is highly quantitative and technology driven. Applicants should be able to do quick mental arithmetic and have a good understanding of probability. You must work well on a team and perform in a high pressure and competitive environment.

Previous experience or course work in finance, business or economics is not required. We are interested in hiring responsible, motivated, adaptive and logical thinkers.
